CHASM FAE

Chasm fae are the result of a memory arriving in the Chasm through a rift formed in a fairy circle - whether that's unfortunate or fortunate to the nearby inhabitants, it's a surprisingly frequent occurrence. Just a story told at some point in the locale's history can pass through the rift and start to form an entity. While originally made from thoughts and past memories, Chasm Fae are very real and commonly tangible. Their designation of Chasm Fae refers to the most common memories to take shape, but any memories can take form through a rift, and a Chasm Fae can also be called by a more specific designation, such as Púca for Uuner.

Originally appearing in a cave system on a deep level of the Chasm, the locale the Fairy Circle rifts began depositing beings into flourished into a mycelial forest, full of colorful plants despite still being a massive cave, and absolutely stocked with mushrooms. If the Fae make homes here, they often blend in with the nature, made of the materials around them. They may have trinkets for fun or for use inside, but those are inside goods. It is almost impossible to find a Fae home without being led to it, the easiest way otherwise being to accidentally see someone leaving their home. You will not see this unless you were meant to.

Chasm Fae almost always carry some of the forest with them - mushrooms on the body, leaves or other flora growing around the limbs, and so on. Sometimes, a Chasm Fae will not visibly show this - they typically still carry it internally. It is incredibly rare for a Chasm Fae to have no flora or fungal matter at all and may dull or slow down their abilities. The reason for this is that Chasm Fae are all connected to a mycelial network giving them easy access to the overactive life energy of the Chasm itself. As the Chasm radiates life, all Chasm Fae can tap into it, mycelium or no, however, without the network, it would take just a bit of a delay comparatively. Fae connected to the network also can use telepathy amongst each other, and may use this out of habit beside beings that cannot understand them.

Appearance, habits, and abilities vary heavily based on the Fae's source of story and the plants or fungi growing on them.
Fae with flora growing on them are often diurnal - unless that plant grows nocturnally - and favor that plant's growing season. Fae with fungi or nocturnal plants prefer the night, and again, their symbiote's growing season. Winter-favoring Fae may seem very uncommon, but they can include, for a quick example, things like coniferous plants, heather, turkey tail mushroom, and chaga mycelium. Fae with no mycelial network may have the equivalent of a circadian rhythm issue, having trouble falling into a rhythm naturally. This is not too difficult to overcome, as the Chasm Fae are sapient thought beings and have plenty of time to be functionally immortal, but is about as annoying as it would be for a mortal.
Myth source influences the appearance and some instinctual habits of the Fae, based heavily off the original myth. Many Chasm Fae are sourced from Earth myths, with Nskanetis (and the Leyline) as a close second, and the Couloir and Sxriix both fairly equally rare, due to Fairy Circles' likelihood to grow on the planet. Lore from the Chasm itself does not require a Fairy Circle to form into an entity due to the Chasm being made up of The Eye's distorted memories - though proximity to the Mycelial Chambers does help.
The source of the original idea obviously influences the full body appearance of the Fae, but there can be intricate details as well, such as the era and specific location controlling whether the Fae has wings. Often, a Fae will use both the designation "Fae" and the name of their source myth, but rarely, they will refuse to use either. Please respect this! Original sources also influence attitude and abilities, to an extent. Uuner is observant to and appreciative of tricks as a Púca, but has an outwardly serious attitude. The Pumpkin King was made from the combined myths of a Dullahan and a Nuckelavee but is only dangerous towards Chasm Horsemen - and is truly vicious towards them, fighting them to take parts from their slain bodies before they reform - they are jovial, outgoing, and kind to mortals and their fellow Fae.
Abilities can be influenced by original myth, flora/fungus type, or both, sometimes very metaphorically or loosely. Both of our previous examples of Uuner and The Pumpkin King have their abilities influenced by autumnal leaves, Uuner from falling autumn leaves and Pumpkin King from autumn harvest plants of pumpkins. Pixie's necromancy is mostly sourced from xir ink caps, however Pixie is a false name given to avoid giving up information, xir source is a blend of small magical creatures, including Spriggans and Korrigans, giving xir abilities a bit of a bite and a bit of unpredictability.
Mesmerize was sourced from The Chasm. She leads to The Chasm. Her fungi can be found in The Chasm.

Chasm Fae can crossbreed with most other species, but the hybrid is difficult to describe as a species. For lack of better terms, Fae status is dominant. The resulting offspring would be Fae with traits of the other species, with a likely pull to glamour into the other species. Tybalt is a Satyr crossed with a Domestic Rixixi.

Stereotypical Fae "Metal Allergy" level depends on, of course, mythological source, and is hereditary. Almost all Chasm Fae react to cold, unsmelted iron similarly to a potentially fatal form of dermatitis. More uncommon is a reaction to all iron, or different metal. Even more rare is an immunity to this common allergy. Uncommon reactions happen more with hybrid sources, non-European and non-Earth sources, and further down a Fae lineage as things change over time. Mesmerize reacts severely to all iron and reacts mildly to other metal.

Designing a Chasm Fae

Chasm Fae are considered an open species, being odd fae with alternate lore, but similarly to Fridge Werewolves and Chasm Horsemen, to actually play as one in the Chasmhome ARPG and use it in prompts, you need to obtain it in game, via use of the Fairy Circle item.

As may be obvious from the prior description, Chasm Fae have very few design restrictions. They are created out of thoughts on at least one myth - these can combine, floating together in time - and given life by the excessive life energy from the Chasm. They will look in some way like an interpretation of that myth, loosely or faithfully, given a Strangeness by the overwhelming life. They will commonly - Very commonly, but not mandatorily - have some form of flora or fungi on their body, as described above.

When choosing a myth, please be respectful of closed cultures that you are not a part of and have no history with, such as indigenous peoples, judaism, and most forms of shinto. We cannot possibly list all closed cultures, just please be so normal and cool. The Chasmhome admins cannot comfortably post closed cultures' myths to the masterlist without permission of someone in that culture (hence "cultures that you are not a part of").

Using a Fairy Circle designates your Rixixi, B-NOMALY, or Aexend as a glamour of your Fae. Your Fae will commonly have most or part of their design - patterns and colors, that is - match up to the Rixixi/B-NOMALY/Aex, but this is not technically required. However, at least one of these traits will always appear on both the Fae and the glamoured form, as a tell:

FOR RIXIXI GLAMOURS:

FOR B-NOMALY GLAMOURS:

FOR RIXIXI, B-NOMALY, AND AEX: FREE MARKS, MODIFICATIONS, AND OTHER NON-GENETIC TELLS
This list can be used as a base - if you have an idea not shown on here, but in the same spirit of this list, feel free to ask!

A Fairy Circle item acts as a free Pigment Restyling Laser, Mutation Station, Accessory, and Contact Lens for a Rixixi glamour, and a free Cut and Color for a B-NOMALY glamour, to aid in any needed edits!

You can submit your Fairy Circle via the Update Design button on the side menu on your existing creature's page, just make sure to include the Fairy Circle in the items, and any additional images linked in the comments section.
If you need the design guides for Rixixi and B-NOMALY, there they are.
