Chapter 1

The surrounding crowd is stifling. Once a year, the ringleaders - at least, the leaders of the most well-known Scatterings in Sxriix - stop at each major city on the planet, taking a day for each city, spaced out over a month. Alignment to a ring, while optional, is common enough that most young-adult Ixi go to see the ringleaders and their crew on the annual tour. As would be expected from the mass of gathered bodies, today is your hometown's day.

The murmur from the surrounding crowd dies down to nothing as a tall, thickly-built Rixixi steps up on a polished marble podium, raising their paws high and roars, signaling a start to the day's events.

"My friends - or, if you've already signed on with the Tunnels, my charges, welcome to this year's Sxriix Leaders seminar. I am called Kashe, and they send me up on this rock every year 'cause my voice is loud enough to reach you lot in the back."

A chuckle makes its way through the crowd, and Kashe welcomes it, a smirk making its way across their face. As the crowd quiets, they speak up again. "Before you decide how today's gonna be going for you, you should know, you will not be joining a ring today. Today is a day to meet the heads of the rings and find out - from us and our companions - how the rings function, from the inside out. Now, let's break this crowd up a little!"

"To the west, you'll find my charges from the Tunnels, and I'll be joining them in a mo. To the north, the Atmosphere and their scouts. To the east, the scientists of the Galaxy, and finally, to the south, the conservationists of the Canopy. Go on, mingle!"

A couple hours pass, and you stop to take a brief rest. Several small lounge sections have been set up through the building just for this purpose, and you find that four Rixixi have already taken up several of the seats - Zhaya, the Canopy leader, two adult Rixixi you don't recognize, and Kashe, the Tunnels leader who spoke earlier. Kashe and Zhaya are caught up in a boisterous discussion - boisterous on Kashe's end, at least - and the other two Ixi seem content to commentate from the outside.

Zhaya notices you first and waves a paw cordially, gesturing for you to come closer. Her three companions turn as well, all giving equally welcoming gestures.

"Welcome, dear," Zhaya is the first to speak. "I hope this one didn't scare you away with their shouting. Last year I heard a youngling fainted from surprise."

"That was a one-off incident!" Kashe's laugh is a touch quieter this time. "I swear I made sure the kid was okay, too. We had a good laugh about it after."

"Awright, enough with those two and their flirting," One of the two commentators, a thickly-built pale-blue Ixi chuckles, stretching their back out and standing. "Tell us about you!"

Prompts

Pick 1 out of the following 4 and illustrate or write about it. Illustrations should be fully colored with at least a somewhat detailed background. Literature should be 800+ words. The NPC you respond to will follow up with a question, to which a second piece must be made in response to. (Fullbody, color, and background OR 600+ words) Upon completion of the second piece, this chapter will be complete!

If you can't come up with a response to the prompt you're provided, you may ask for a new one - also, do know that you don't have to base your entire response around it so long as you address the prompt somehow. We'll probably appreciate creative interpretations!

"Uh, how bout you tell us 'bout the first time you landed a kill in a hunt?" The blue Ixi says, pondering. "Ya seem like a hunter to me."

"Oi, not everyone's a hunter, ya muscled meathead!" Their friend laughs beside them, clearly lighthearted in tone. "You more of a crafter, maybe? If y'are, what's your favorite thing that you've made?"

"We could go with a simpler, well-rounded question," Zhaya chuckles. "Like... your earliest childhood memory? Is that a good one?"

"Why're we talkin' like they're just a kid 'n nothin more?" Kashe laughs. "Hey, friend, here's a little bit of the opposite deal: What d'you see yourself doing in the future?"
