COMBAT: How To

As Rixixi are often built thick and muscular on average, sparring became a common sport among the species over time. Rixixi can often be found in arenas or in the wilderness testing their strength against each other to see who comes out on top.

There's quite a bit to get used to in combat and a few things that you won't see in other loot-dropping activities - here's a rundown of how combat works and how to do your combat rolls!

Art Requirements

Combat rolls are fights between two or more Rixixi! This can be two or more of your own Ixi, your Ixi and another member's, or your (and possibly another member's) Ixi and a NPC (see Combat-Ready NPCs). Whether the Ixi are depicted sparring or fighting for sport as described above, or fighting in a serious, aggressive fight, they must be portrayed fighting or at least sizing each other up with intent to strike.

Combat images should meet the following requirements:

  • Full body (60% or more of the Ixi showing)

  • Color OR Greyscale, should clearly show the Ixi's markings either way.

  • Background - doesn't have to be extremely complex, but items and features of the background should be defined and clear. See Art Requirements Info for more details!

Combat literature should meet the following requirements:

  • 600+ words at least!

  • All Ixi being rolled should play a major role in the story - Rixixi showing up in passing cannot be rolled. NPCs have more lenience and can count for the NPC-Accompanied bonus (see How to Earn Experience Points) as a background character (such as someone watching, encouraging a combatant, or cheering the Ixi on) rather than a combatant themself.

For both types:

  • Up to four Rixixi can be rolled per image - other ixi can appear for Training Mode EXP, but will not be a major part of the battle, and will not return extra items!

  • Please only post 2 Combat entries per day maximum - this refers to art pieces rather than Rixixi. In the case of activity sheets, individual panels/parts count as individual art pieces!

Combat-Exclusive Stats

Priority

Priority refers to which Ixi goes first in combat.

Priority is determined by speed, but can be altered by Skills past the 400 maximum that Speed has. Without skills, the Ixi with the highest speed goes first. If the Ixi with the highest and second-highest speed (and possibly third- and fourth- highest if more than two Ixi in the battle) are within 50 speed of each other, a coin toss determines who goes first.

Critical Hit Rate:

(Crit Rate, Critical Rate, Crit Hit Rate)

One d20 is rolled on an attack to check for a crit, which at base rate gets set off at a natural 20. A Critical Hit is 1.5x as strong as a normal attack. Crit Rate can be improved by Skills.

Equipment Restrictions & Levelups

Regardless of the Battle Mode, Ixi can only take so many of their equipped items into combat per level. With experience comes the strength and knowledge that lets one hold more things.

  • Newfound: 2 Equipped Items in Combat
  • Rising: 3 Equipped Items in Combat
  • Active: 5 Equipped Items in Combat
  • Critical: 7 Equipped Items in Combat
  • Irradiated: 10 Equipped Items in Combat
  • Omnipotent: No Limit

This does not limit how many items a Rixixi can equip in general - a Rixixi below Omnipotent level may just have to pick and choose between their items if they have many!

Companions count as equipment if they grant a combat-relevant skill (Snared Mymber counts as equipment, for example), but not if they grant a stat boost (something like a Kaurphyt Raven is not equipment).

Battle Mode

The Battle Mode is a set of customizeable rules! There's a standard version below you can use if you don't feel like customizing it, and a version that comes into play with Story Mode's boss battles!

You can see an example of this filled out in Submitting Combat Pieces

Custom Battle Mode Form:

Number of Rounds: (You don't have to set a limit, especially if you're going for Last Standing as a win condition. 1-3 rounds is a quick battle. 7-10 rounds is fairly long.)
Items Allowed: (Examples: Any, Equipped Only, Companions Only, None, etc)
Win Condition: (Examples: Highest Damage Dealt, Highest Damage Taken without KO, Last Standing, Highest Damage Dealt (with companion), etc)
Arena Conditions (OPTIONAL): (This allows you to put some form of danger in the arena. Not recommended for battles with low-stat Rixixi.
Examples: DoT (same damage as fast attack) each turn, DoT (increasing damage starting at same damage as fast attack) each turn, 4 Wild Snared Mymbers in the arena, Instant Black Hole on the 5th turn
)
Other Limitations (OPTIONAL): (The sky's the limit if you're going for a unique arena here. Some past ideas: No Aiming at Specific Opponent, Only 1 Equipped Item Maximum)

Standard Mode:
Enter "Standard Mode" when submitting if you just want these rules instead of filling out a form.

Number of Rounds: 5
Items Allowed: Any
Win Condition: Highest Damage Dealt without KO or Last Standing

Story Mode Boss Battles:

Number of Rounds: Stated in Story Mode chapter - usually 5-10
Items Allowed: Any
Win Condition: Survive All Rounds or Defeat Enemy
Other Limitations: Almost always singleplayer (possibly allowing team-ups with other members depending on chapter).

The amount of rounds the battle lasts will be found in the Story Mode chapter (typically between 5-10). An NPC will sometimes join you, and their moves will be input by admins. Any items are allowed, and seeing as surviving several rounds is the win condition, health-related temporary/single-use boons are highly recommended.

A quick note from Anarchisme on making custom conditions: You might notice that most of the combat skills have dice rolls and math involved. You don't have to do that yourself. I usually just plug in a few average stats and test them quickly, even, they're not perfect.

The most basic Damage over Time attacks are about equal to Fast Attack in damage, feel free to use "same as Fast Attack" or "d10+[attack/2]" if you want that.

Submitting Combat Pieces

To submit a Combat entry, please submit at This Prompt with the following form! Each Rixixi in the combat piece should have a separate claim submitted by their owner - if you're submitting a fight between your own Rixixi, submit them all yourself! If you're doing a battle against another member, each one of you should submit your own Ixi!

The Battle Mode should be the same between all forms for the same battle - if you're doing combat with another player, make sure to discuss it first! We won't reject a form that says "same battle mode as [the other player]", even if you both submit the same message - we'll just ask what you meant. Additionally, if you're doing combat with another player, try to send it in at the same time - we can't roll a multiplayer combat if we don't have multiple prompts to comment on!

Form:

Combat Piece: (Link to your art piece here!)
Combatant: (Link to your Rixixi/Mechanix)
Opponent: (List your opponent here!)
Equipment: (see "Equipment Restrictions & Levelups" in the how-to. List which of your Rixixi/Mechanix's equipment they're taking into this battle! If Omnipotent level, mark down "Omnipotent", you don't have to list everything.)
Bonuses: (Any items you're adding, any bonuses the Ixi has!)
Battle Mode: (Fill out the form from the how-to here or just enter "Standard Mode" if you want that)

Here's an example form!

Combat Piece: [link]
Combatant: Thoriane
Opponent: Kashe
Equipment: Poison Blade
Bonuses: Brutal Rending
Battle Mode:
Number of Rounds: 4
Items Allowed: Any
Win Condition: Highest Damage Taken (without KO) OR Last Standing
Arena Conditions (OPTIONAL): Poison DoT each round (d10+[defense/4], add a die each round)

After you submit your claim, an admin will reply using the comment function asking you for your first move! Reply to this with what move you'd like to use first, and repeat this process for your second move and so on! The battle will end when the last turn ends or only one Ixi remains!

You'll receive a google doc included in an admin comment with more of the math and dice rolls written out - if you're curious how things went on the backend, feel free to check it out.

Combat-Ready NPCs

Here's a list of NPCs that you can face in singleplayer combat! All NPCs' stats scale based on their opponents to avoid unfair matches.

A tip: using Observe on an NPC will result in obtaining an entire stat sheet, sometimes detailed enough to include what moves they favor and which they forget to use.

Kashe 0001

A combat trainer when not leading the Tunnels, Kashe is eager to help anyone train.

The Authorities 0076

Trains recruits... and is a potential target of criminals. Expert at dropping people.

Corona 0077

Willing to train others in the Black Market ring self-defense. For others? Take caution, they might be holding something unfortunate.

Illusionates (No Import)

Creatures from the Chasm that can mimic almost anyone - they're often hostile, as well as often being vain. Stay aware of what's happening while fighting them - they have some tricks up their sleeves!

(Extra notes due to no import:
Bonus Drops: Anything held by the Ixi the Illusionate is fighting, Apparel, Mutation Station, Hypnotic Disguise)

RESTRICTED: The Beast (No Import)
Restriction: Include a link to one combatant encountering The Beast in Chasmjumping ("Returned: AlternateFatality"). This is revenge!

A Rixixi lost to the Chasm ages ago and mutated into a Beast. Heavily mutated and unable to return to the outside world due to their instability, they hunt those who stray too far into the Chasm for no reason other than to prove their strength - possibly to prove to themself that they're still alive.

(Extra notes due to no import:
Bonus Drops: Apparel, Mutation Station, Scarification Kit, Hypnotic Disguise, Trinket Jar: Fossil Tooth, Void Poison)
